Overcoming The Pressure of Perfection
If you are not careful, you can lose your authentic self pretty quickly.
So often when we see people on stage, on TV, winning awards, we think…
Wow, they must be so happy. They really have it all together.
It’s hard to remember that what we see online rarely tells a full story.
When we see someone who has a big smile and a big life, it’s really easy to believe they have their whole life under control.
We have to be diligent in reminding ourselves that what we see is just an edited highlight reel. Because what most people don’t realize is that with more attention comes more external pressure to conform - to act, look, and live a certain way.
Growing up, I lived in the public eye as a competitive gymnast and I learned that if you are not careful, you can lose sight of your authentic self pretty quickly.
It’s so easy to start allowing other people’s opinions of you to become more important than your own…
I was just crying, completely devastated because my worst nightmare had come true. My fears were validated. People were telling me what I was already thinking. You’re not enough. You’re not beautiful. You’re not accepted. And that can rip anyone apart.
