“Part of what keeps me going is realizing that failure is actually normal. It is part of every entrepreneurship journey. Success is not a straight line. Failure doesn't define you, especially one-time failure.” - Tina Cheng, Enoughness Podcast, Ep. 33
Many of my coaching clients come to me because they feel stuck, confused, struggling with what to do next in their careers.
The stress is palpable in the strain of their voices and the fatigue in their bodies.
I always say, “Follow someone’s stress and it will lead you to their fear.”
One of the most common ones I see is Fear of Failure. It prevents us from taking action towards the things that feel most authentic to ourselves for fear of letting someone else down.
I use these series of questions to begin liberating my clients from their fears.
How to Overcome Failure: 5 Questions to Identity The Root of Your Fear
Why are you afraid to fail?
Whose approval are you seeking? — Why is their approval so important to you?
Do you conflate “failing” with being “a failure”? — If so, when was the first time you remember this belief appearing?
What is the worst thing that could happen if you tried and failed?
What is the BEST thing that could happen if you tried and succeeded?
Hope these questions are helpful for you. If you’d like to dig deeper, I’d love to learn more about you.
This week on the Enoughness Podcast, I spoke with Tina Cheng, a serial entrepreneur and mother, about how she’s shed the fears of starting a new business and how she’s allowed herself to explore the unknown. We explore how building multiple businesses and experiencing both success and failure shaped her into the woman she is today. We discuss:
How to let failure guide you to success
What successful entrepreneurship looks like
How to learn to trust and believe in yourself and your abilities
How to find happiness and enoughness while working for yourself
